Trade studies. The above figures show one of the
numerous possible ISOGRID-SST™ sets of structural parameter trades for a specific structure and its
loading conditions. In these plots the number of ribs, skin thickness, rib widths and
plate thickness can be interchanged as abscissa, field or top level parameters.
In this case, stress margins are computed and the conditions where margins are <0,
>0 and >.5 are spotted on the trades. Other margins such as for general instability,
when they are computed, would also be labeled on such trades.
A thick red line highlights the optimum results for minimum weight and margins
greater than zero.
The left and right ordinates can alternatively include margin values, total weight,
unit weight, or deflections.
Alternative trades can be automatically generated.
These unique ISOGRID-SST™ trades provide visibility on the effects of selecting off
optimum design parameters. They also help in quickly assessing the influence of
specific design parameters and loading conditions on weight and performance.
